Winter Solstice and The Longest Night
The Longest Night and The Big Dark
Here in the Northwest from late October to February the combination of short days with overcast, cloudy, rainy weather results in what is known as The Big Dark. The Winter Solstice being our shortest day with the sunrise at 7:55am and sunset at 4:20pm; it is also our longest night of over 15 and 1/2 hours. This longest night invites us to have inward reflection and introspection. As we celebrate the slow return of the sun and with it the longer days; it also represents the turning point - half way through The Big Dark!
