Time for a Fall Reset
I love the sunny days of summer, but when October arrived with the cooler, rainy weather that was so needed, I welcomed the change. The change of seasons is, in a way, a reset for nature. And as our natural world comes into balance it has me thinking about what areas of my life are out of balance and what reset is needed.
Like so many of us, one area that has been out of balance for me has been screens. I feel like I am constantly on my phone whether I’m working, going for a walk, connecting socially or simply wasting time.
I recently dropped into a group meditation on a digital detox. The focus of the meditation was on “disconnecting from our digital habits for a week to cultivate mindfulness, build awareness, and inner peace.” I don’t know about you, but this seemed like the reset that I have needed for a long time. So I decided to experiment with digital detox as my reset.
For my digital detox week, I gave up using my phone on my daily dog walks. I love to listen to podcasts and audiobooks on my walks, so this hasn’t exactly been easy. While I've enjoyed the quiet walks immensely, I wasn’t quite sure I wanted to give up listening to my audiobooks forever.
This reset gave me time and space to realize that I can be much more intentional with my walking. If I need some time for deep thinking, to enjoy nature or to quiet my mind, then walking without headphones will be right for me. If I am needing time to learn, or simply want to be distracted, then choosing to listen to a book or podcast will be just the right thing.
This month, I invite you to consider what in your life is out of balance? And what area would you like a reset?

Be well,
Lisa
